About NBMBAA

About the National Black MBA Association®

Founded in 1970 by a group of students at the University of Chicago, the National Black MBA Association® (NBMBAA) began with a simple vision—to create economic and intellectual wealth in the African American community. Since then it has flourished and grown, with 39 chapters representing more than 100,000 black MBAs nationwide.

The association offers a broad range of services and programs that benefit individuals, entrepreneurs, and corporations. We partner with some of the top Fortune 100 companies, and we grant hundreds of thousands of scholarship dollars annually to undergraduate and graduate students, concentrating on our core MBA students. The NBMBAA is there as individuals start their careers, offering the benefits of NBMBAA Case Competition®, the NBMBAA Employment Network®, our Annual Conference and Exposition, job match services, and more. We provide coaching and mentoring when they change jobs, change careers, or take the entrepreneurial leap.

We impact future MBAs even before they are members, recruiting talented middle-school students into the Leaders of Tomorrow® program, where we provide mentoring, tutoring, business opportunities, summer leadership camp, and scholarships, and even fuel the flames of entrepreneurship.

Our newest initiative, collegiate chapters, develops the pipeline from the classroom to the boardroom to develop business practices. No matter what your goals are or what stage of your career you're in, NBMBAA helps you address and integrate five major life components: education, career, leadership, entrepreneurship, and lifestyle.

Education
From high school through the MBA and into the world of business, we provide scholarships, mentoring, and thought-provoking leadership to help you navigate the pipeline of career success.

Career
Shape your vision, get feedback, and polish your skills through the NBMBAA Career Success NetworkSM, where members tap into world-class executive coaching, online tools, live workshops, and much more. Attend the annual Career Fair— the largest professional recruiting event for African Americans—for direct access to HR executives from more than 350 top corporations.

Leadership
NBMBAA members are among the top leaders in corporate America, at the helm of the most dynamic emerging enterprises, and at the top of their fields in business education. NBMBAA harnesses the best ideas and resources by providing venues for seasoned MBAs and others to share ideas and knowledge and learn from top business educators, coaches, and practitioners who embody the ideals of intent, innovation, and integrity to develop the next generation of business leadership.

Entrepreneurship
Globalization, outsourcing, and even shifting dynamics inside the workplace have created new entrepreneurial opportunities—and new obstacles. NBMBAA provides access to resources, information, and insights to help you plan, manage, and profit from change.

Lifestyle
Finding life balance as a high-achiever is important to you. Helping you connect with others who share similar interests and concerns is vital to us. Networking around personal well-being, family, culture, and community is another way we bring our mission to life.

Helping our members to reach the highest ranks of leadership is a fundamental commitment of the National Black MBA Association. NBMBAA continually strives to be innovative through such programs as our Local Empowerment Initiative, which is executed in our local markets, NBMBAA Gold Key AccessSM executive-level networking events, and NtentialSM, a career development system to reach infinite potential.

"Access really is the operative word at every level," said Barbara L. Thomas, president and chief executive officer, NBMBAA. "Our aim is to serve the needs of each member holistically by providing access to innovative education, career, leadership, entrepreneurial, and lifestyle solutions. By serving our members well, we add value to business and our communities everywhere."
