At The University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, students challenge assumptions, ask questions, and dig deeper to solve complex problems and learn the business fundamentals. Chicago GSB teaches not only essential business practices but also the underlying theory that makes them work.
There are two options for full-time study, the MBA and the International MBA (IMBA). The full-time program typically takes two years to complete with an internship between the first and second years. Chicago GSB also offers several part-time programs designed for students who wish to pursue their MBA without interrupting their careers. The Evening and Weekend MBA Programs are held in Chicago; Executive MBA Programs are available in Chicago, London, and Singapore.
Curriculum and Community
The curriculum at Chicago GSB is set apart by its broad flexibility. At Chicago GSB, students are given the freedom to choose their own courses based on interest, experiences, and career goals. Within a framework that ensures breadth and exposure to core business disciplines, full-time, evening, and weekend students choose from a broad spectrum of courses to fulfill the requirements of the flexible core curriculum, as well as 11 elective courses.
Experiential learning is at the core of the curriculum and is considered an integral part of students' development. By putting theory into practice in real-world settings, students gain valuable leadership experience and develop strong connections to senior-level executives throughout the business world. These experiential learning programs empower students to stretch themselves in new directions with an expert coach by their side-guiding and supporting them every step of the way.
A world-class education also extends beyond the classroom. The Chicago GSB community is a dynamic group of diverse students with myriad interests and experiences. Active involvement in social, career-related, and cultural groups will lead to new experiences, enhanced perspectives, and relationships that will last a lifetime.
Opportunities for involvement and leadership abound. With typical enterprising mindset, the diverse student body has established a wide variety of groups and activities to satisfy every interest, including the more than 80 student-led organizations. These groups host some of the world's top business and community leaders, who regularly visit campus to participate in student-organized conferences and presentations.
The Faculty
Chicago GSB faculty members, known as the best in business education, are free to develop innovative ways of teaching and presenting material, as well as to introduce new courses based on cutting-edge research or changing demands from the business community. Their achievements include redefining the science of the stock market, originating the study of modern finance, and proposing database marketing. The result of innovation in thought, research, and teaching method is a wide and lively mix of teaching styles and philosophies that add to the richness and diversity of the Chicago GSB experience.
Admission and Financial Aid
The Admissions Committee looks for people who have demonstrated the ability to succeed through work experience, academic endeavors, and extracurricular or community service involvement. Additionally, the committee seeks applicants with leadership skills and potential, successful work on teams, superior communication skills, and an understanding of the value of an MBA. Applicants should express why Chicago GSB is a good fit for their goals.
Chicago GSB is committed to identifying financial resources for students who require assistance in meeting the costs of the MBA program.
