WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management
Overview
The WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management, a private university located in Vallendar near Koblenz in Germany, was the first school in Germany (1984) to offer a major in business administration emphasising the strategic leadership of corporations.
Objectives The School sees its main mission as the education of general managers and entrepreneurs who can master a variety of jobs in an international setting. WHU is truly international. Over the past few years, it has established a unique co-operative worldwide network of over 150 universities and more than 60 corporations on all continents.
Recognition In 1998, WHU was the first German university to receive the European Quality Award, granted by the EQUIS Commission. EQUIS, the European Quality Improvement System, has established an international standard for evaluating business schools, a system that has long been in place in the USA. The award, renewed in 2003, has further enhanced WHU?s reputation, especially among its international partner universities.
Leading newspapers and magazines rank WHU among the top German management schools (eg The Financial Times ranks it as the sixth best in Germany, Der Spiegel rates it as the top German school).
Programmes Apart from a four-year degree in the science of business administration, WHU offers:
- a full-time MBA programme
- an Executive MBA programme in conjunction with the Kellogg School of Management, USA
- international MBA modules delivered to MBA programmes of overseas partner universities (eg Carnegie Mellon University, USA and Melbourne Business School, Australia)
- customised corporate programmes (eg for the METRO Group).

Today?s 18 academic chairs, and more than 40 outside lecturers from Germany and other countries guarantee the high quality of WHU?s practice-orientated teaching that is supported by independent scientific research. The School co-operates with more than 140 partner universities from all over the world.
Master?s and doctoral students can take courses with a large variety of functional departments: Management Accounting and Logistics, Economics, Electronic Media, Financial and Banking Management, Industrial Organisation, International Management, Marketing, Organisation and Leadership, Production, Information Management, Entrepreneurship, and Business Policy and Strategy.
An international dimension The international module (at the Kellogg School of Management (USA), the China Europe International Business School (China) and the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore (India)), gives the full-time MBA programme an even more international scope.
WHU is well known for its extensive faculty exchange programmes. The lovely Vallendar Campus continually plays host to business experts from around the world, who discuss their experiences and insights with students as part of WHU?s innovative curriculum.
