Hellen Haiyan Huang Guangxi, China 34
Hellen was about to start a career in education when an opportunity to work in journalism arose. For a young woman full of ambition, this challenge was too good to refuse and her successes have led her to achieve an MBA in Sunderland.
"I originally trained to be a teacher, my family were from an educational background, so it was a natural path for me to follow. Though, once I'd graduated I was offered a job as a journalist and editor with the leading local newspaper in Guangxi. There was a new and exciting challenge in journalism, which I knew I would never get from teaching. The thrill of the news world has kept me busy for the last 13 years and I was lucky enough to be able to come to Sunderland and study the MBA programme?.
Hellen has since returned to China and plans to breathe a new lease of life into it her job. "I'm already thinking about how I?m going to do it better; the MBA has strengthened my confidence as well as my management perspective. As a woman, I didn't really imagine myself as a manager before but I can now see myself being far more independent and offering alternative ways of doing things. I would definitely recommend the MBA at Sunderland to other students thinking of coming to study in the UK".
