Overview The College of Business Administration is one of six colleges at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. A part of the Texas A&M University System, the university has an enrollment of approximately 6,000 students. The student body reflects the ethnic diversity of South Texas with approximately 65 percent of the student body being of Hispanic origin. Kingsville is located 40 miles southwest of Corpus Christi and 120 miles north of Mexico and has a population of 25,000. The college has it roots in courses of study in business administration and secretarial studies offered by the Division of Industrial Arts and Commerce as early as the 1930s.The Division of Business Administration became the School of Business Administration in 1967 and the College of Business Administration in 1972. The college offers seven undergraduate majors and two graduate degree programs - Master of Business Administration and Master of Professional Accountancy. The college is accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
Programs The MBA program is a 36-semester-hour program consisting of 24 hours of core courses and 12 hours of electives. Students who have an undergraduate degree in business or equivalent course work may begin taking the MBA core courses immediately. Students who do not have the undergraduate prerequisites will be required to take stem-work courses to make up the deficiencies. The 12 hours of electives can be taken in any functional area of business and sufficient graduate courses are available to take the entire elective block in either accounting or computer information systems. It is also possible to earn a Master of Science degree in business administration. In this case the 24 hours of core courses remains the same but the 12-hour elective block is taken in another college - typically Engineering, Agriculture, or Education.
The MBA program is offered in residence at the Kingsville campus. All MBA classes are scheduled in the evenings (6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.) and the core MBA courses are offered during the day on Saturdays on a three-year rotation. Graduate elective courses are offered in the summer sessions. Core MBA courses are not usually offered in the summer sessions. Because of the evening and Saturday course scheduling, students may pursue the program on either a full-time or part-time basis. Although not required, an internship can be part of a student's MBA degree program. There are several student organizations in which MBA students can participate.
Facilities The College of Business Administration is housed in its own modern two-story building at the northwest corner of the campus. In addition to the classrooms and administrative offices, the building houses one general access computer laboratory and there are two classrooms equipped with student computer workstations. Most other classrooms have computer projection equipment for the instructor's use. All classrooms have Internet access available to the instructor. There is a student study room with wireless Internet access.
Teaching and research assessments The MBA program is reviewed every five years as part of the College of Graduate Studies internal review process and every ten years by ACBSP. In addition to these assessments, the college administers the EBI MBA Exit Survey. Some MBA students present their research in the Texas A&M University System Pathways Research Symposium.
