Name: Peter Bodman MBA 2005
Peter was working as an Information Systems Development Manager and decided to take a career break to do the Kent MBA in its full time format with with aim of developing his management skills. Since then, he has been voted in as Managing Director of a start up that got off the ground thanks to the Enterpise Hubs at Canterbury and Sittingbourne which help turn technology ideas into businesses. Although his company, Polygons Ltd is still looking for further venture capital, he is confident that their fire prevention system for the home will be a success. Peter's MBA class is the first to receive AMBA accreditation and he will benefit from the increasing value of his Kent MBA as his career develops. We look forward to seeing Peter at our alumni events.
'I had a solid career in IT strategy but I knew that if I wanted to progress I would have to find a way to build credibility in the business environment. Whilst technology was never a problem to me - it was dealing with people and the unpredictable human factor that made me realise I needed a different set of skills if I was going to be successful. I was lucky in that I was able take a full year out and applied to do the full-time MBA at Kent Business School.
Without doubt, the part of the programme which has had most impact on me is HR and organisational behaviour. But I have also learnt from my classmates who came from wide range of professional backgrounds and nationalities. I have also gained real insight on decisions I had made in the past and I am able to predict and make better decisions far more quickly, simply because I now have an in-depth understanding of the problem from a variety of angles. One thing I am sure of is that after doing an MBA it's impossible to go back to your original status quo.'
