Durham Business School

Durham Business School is a vibrant multidisciplinary business school, delivering specialist master's programmes, MBAs and executive education to organisations and individuals. Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2005, it is one of the longest established business schools in the UK and is consistently ranked among the top business education providers in Europe.

Hobsons MBA - Durham UniversityFrom our earliest beginnings, we have established an international reputation for our supportive style, friendly atmosphere, innovative approach to business education and enterprise development, the way we balance theory and knowledge with skills and abilities, and the excellence of our master's programmes.

The University and School
Durham Business School is an integral part of Durham University. Established in 1832, Durham University is the third oldest higher education institution in England after Oxford and Cambridge. The University's excellent academic record helps it stay at the top of league tables for a broad range of graduate employment. The excellence of our School has been recognised with the granting of European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) accreditation.

The Business School is located in a beautiful semi-rural location only ten minutes' walk from Durham city centre. Durham itself is renowned for the quality of life and support it gives to participants, and the 1,000-year-old historic cathedral city provides an 'Ivy League' atmosphere.

The MBA
The Durham MBA was re-accredited by the Association of MBAs in 2003, and is widely regarded for its good quality by recruiting and sponsoring organisations. The programme is continually developed to respond to the needs of industry, commerce and the public sector. It is comprehensive in its coverage of management topics, and emphasises improving key skills and personal development.

The MBA programme is delivered in three stages: the first is a foundation to establish management knowledge and understanding, followed by the elective stage, which allows in-depth study and reflection on an important management discipline. Students wishing to tailor their degree to a particular specialism have the opportunity to do so, whilst others can choose a generalist route. The final stage sees participants completing a dissertation/project. Graduation is the programme's finalé, a gathering of successful students, their families and friends, and members and associates of the Business School to witness and celebrate the conferring of degrees in the magnificent setting of Durham Cathedral.

Alumni network
After graduation, Agora, the alumni association of Durham Business School, enables you to retain the friendships and contacts you have made during your studies. It offers a range of services, including an interactive alumni extranet, regular newsletters and job vacancies, workshops and seminars, and social events.

Scholarships
Durham Business School offers various scholarships to help you finance your studies. Funding is also available through the British Chevening Scholarships, the Shell Centenary and Shell Chevening Scholarships, and the Fulbright Awards (for US applicants). These scholarships are extremely competitive and early application is recommended.

The quality and reputation of your MBA must distinguish you from others - the Durham MBA will set you apart.
