University of Edinburgh Business School
The Edinburgh MBA is academically tough, but completely relevant to business; we want our students to gain competence and be able to cut through clever-sounding but empty ideas. It is highly interactive, with internationally experienced fellow students, and is designed to develop them as leaders in a multicultural context, as well as intellectually.
Tailored to your needs
We believe that students should be equipped not only with the latest knowledge, but also with the personal skills to apply that knowledge in the best possible way. For that reason, we have put together an unrivalled personal development programme, based on what future employers expect from our students.
We see them as partners and stakeholders, so we expect our students to contribute to the programme by putting their business experience into play. They will have at least three years' working experience (eight years on average), so we know that they will learn a lot from their fellow students. We try to foster this learning process through small-group activities in all the courses.
A diverse mix Our students have an average age of 31, and come from all industries and all continents; 70% of the class originates from overseas, comprising around 30 different nationalities.
Programme structure Both full-time MBA programmes share the same structure for the first two terms. First-term courses cover the foundations of business and management. Subsequent terms focus on strategic management in greater depth, and allow students to specialise in areas of interest by selecting from a wide range of options. Students on the 12-month course undertake a consultancy project with a local organisation and then complete their dissertations with an option to carry out a non-assessed internship. Students on the MBA in International Business programme spend the period from April to June studying options at one of the School's international partners and then undertake an internship before completing their dissertations.
Accreditation All three Edinburgh MBA courses are accredited by the Association of MBAs. The School is also accredited by EQUIS.
Links and networks The School fosters strong corporate links. Over 50 visiting speakers (including chairmen and chief executive officers of publicly quoted companies), drawn from the local and international business community, speak to the MBA class each year on a variety of topics. Some of these senior industry practitioners are the School's own MBA alumni, who provide an invaluable resource in terms of advice and contacts to students. Our alumni network now numbers over 3,500 members and stretches across 80 countries, including representation in virtually all major companies and industry sectors. The School's extensive links with the business community are also enhanced by its many research centres and institutes.
Facilities Our home is a modern, purpose-built building, with 24-hour access and wireless computer facilities throughout. We are a three-minute walk away from the University's main library, one of the most important research libraries in Europe.
The city Edinburgh is Scotland's ancient, yet vibrantly modern, capital city. It's lively, safe, welcoming and full of local character. It provides the best living environment in the UK.
