University of Kalmar Baltic Business School
The University of Kalmar's master's programme in Leadership and Management in International Context reflects our time, our realities and our dreams. It reflects today's business and entrepreneurial problems and challenges. It meets the demands of our society, which has become an information-, learning- and competence-based society. Our programme reflects the trend towards economic globalisation, towards multicultural alliances and partnerships, and towards 'internationalisation' in the true meaning of the word. It is an entrepreneurial programme that we produce, not a series of courses we consume.
Programme aims
The aim of this programme is to enhance leadership abilities among people with driving ambitions, aspirations and desires, people who need a nourishing environment where learning can take place. Learning is not done simply by receiving, but by participating, influencing and creating. This programme searches continuously for new instructive forms that encourage individual growth and development. It combines genuinely authentic approaches with established 'truths', together with young, fresh and creative visions.
We create arenas for learning, laboratories for experimentation and an enriching environment for personal growth. The programme deals with the different facets of leadership within an international context, taking into account personal, as well as professional, competencies and requirements. It also deals with sophisticated business situations in ambiguous settings. The programme is at the forefront of any intellectual and professional journey through the landscape of leadership and that of international management.
Key concepts Continuous learning is a key concept - thus, learning is the sole guarantee for survival and for success. What is at stake is, above all, our spiritual survival as persons and as members of communities. Our perceptions and understanding of how things work, be it in firms or in life in general, has time and time again proven to be wrong. We are surprised and we tend to react more often than anticipate or be proactive. Time and time again, we are surprised that events in business and in civil life do not obey our commands. The stock market has a life of its own, showing disdain for mathematical formulae. The validity of our geopolitical and geo-economical interpretations of the cultures and ideologies of the different regions of the world is fairly weak. The clear interpretation of other people's actions and speeches seems to present difficulties. Even making sense of everyday events appears to be a challenge. Not only do we need to learn to cope with these uncertainties and many other abnormalities, but we also have to unlearn and leave behind the deadweight of old and restricting paradigms.
Studying for success
For those who wish to participate successfully in a demanding economic environment, it is necessary to acquire competence in many areas, and an ability to act over and beyond national and cultural boundaries. Challenging opportunities within Europe and elsewhere are accessible to professionally qualified people. To ensure students are able to operate effectively and take full advantage of what is on offer, their education must therefore proceed from a broad base, and be driven by global-thinking and acting professionals and scholars.
Our programme reflects the trend towards economic globalisation, towards multicultural alliances and partnerships, and towards Â?internationalisationÂ?.
