Lancaster University
Management School

Overview
Hobsons MBA - Lancaster UniversityThere is a special quality about the Lancaster MBA and studying at Lancaster that is remembered by our alumni for many years. It is partly to do with the benefits of studying at one of the UK's highest-ranked and internationally acclaimed management schools. It is partly to do with the lifelong benefits arising from a programme that combines intellectual stimulation, action learning and new skills. Above all,our alumni remember the individual attention and a very supportive learning environment.

Lancaster University Management School is one of only two UK business schools to carry the coveted 6-star rating for consistent world-class research quality in business and management. The School has been a pioneer of executive teaching programmes since 1964, and the Higher Education Funding Council for England rates our teaching as 'excellent'.

The Lancaster MBA
The Financial Times and the Economist Intelligence Unit rank the Lancaster MBA among the top 100 MBAs in the world. The Financial Times' 2006 MBA rankings confirm Lancaster's position as one of the UK's top-ranked schools and amongst the world's top 30. Only one business school in the world can beat Lancaster's meteoric rise over the last three years to become 30th in the world. The School has the UK's second highest-ranked one-year MBA programme. The MBA is ranked first in Europe (and second in the world) for the value for money it represents for students and alumni.

A unique programme
The Lancaster MBA delivers a unique blend of theory and practice. Core modules begin with an exploration of the main functional management disciplines (marketing, accounting, finance, human resource management and operations management) that are later integrated through the study of strategic management. The programme also explores organisational behaviour, the economic environment and important analytical skills. Leadership is emphasised with modules exploring principles, skills and the importance of responsibility in leadership.

Uniquely, the concepts, tools and skills are also applied in practice. On the full-time programme, our participants engage in three consultancy challenges. These consultancy projects directly enhance management and leadership skills, and give participants the opportunity to gain further experiences with start-ups, small and medium- sized enterprises, and large corporate businesses.

There are opportunities to specialise in particular aspects of management (finance, entrepreneurship, leadership and marketing/ strategy) by choosing modules from a wide range of electives. We also offer the chance to study abroad for part of the year with one of our world-class partner universities in Europe, North America and Asia.

The Executive MBA
The part-time Executive MBA (EMBA) is a modular programme (seven one-week-long modules plus a dissertation over a maximum of 24 months). The EMBA also focuses on action learning, paying special attention to how managers can use management theory in the workplace by means of a regular cycle of assignments, and supporting tools and models. The unique EMBA approach to executive development means that a sponsoring employer benefits along with the participant, ensuring outstanding value for money.
