Farhat Naheed Executive MBA, Middlesex University
Degree obtained BA in Marketing and Social Research, Diploma in Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply Country of origin Pakistan Age 28 years
Career history After graduating in 2000 Farhat began working for the NHS as a purchasing assistant. She moved on to BAE Systems where she studied for the Diploma in Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply. This qualification led her to the post of Head of Procurement at Newham College in 2004. She then decided to study for an MBA and began looking for an AMBA accredited programme.
The Middlesex MBA I found the interactive learning experience particularly useful as the theory was underpinned by activities in the field and exposure to real-life business challenges. The MBA is not just a business-related qualification for me. It has helped me develop personal attributes I didn't realise I had.
Particularly, I found the personal managerial effectiveness and reflective practice modules very helpful. The 'Belbin team roles' and learning styles were just the tip of the iceberg of understanding my behaviour and others I live and work with. Also the international business trip is a huge asset to the MBA programme and a very enjoyable experience.
I can now see that the career opportunities offered after the MBA are numerous. I am rethinking my plans for the future.
'The MBA is not just a business-related qualification for me. It has helped me develop personal attributes I didn't realise I had.'
Alex Kyriakou General MBA, Middlesex University
Country of origin Greece/UK Age 33 years
Career history Alex Kyriakou worked for seven years with EADS Astrium, a major aerospace and defence engineering company, in a number of managerial roles, such as supply management and engineering, business transformation and process improvement. While in this job, he developed an insight into the dynamism of a customer-driven environment. He is currently employed as a consultant with GlaxoSmithKline, one of the top 20 FT Global 500 companies.
The Middlesex MBA I saw the MBA as a stepping stone to providing me with an insight into how theory and the real world are connected. Looking back, I can now confidently say that the Middlesex MBA has given me a global view of management and a conceptual framework for thinking about business problems. Besides the excellent teaching, what made the course even more interesting was the opportunity to engage with people from around the world. This allowed me to learn from their experiences, helping me to look at problems and perceive people from a different angle. 'The Middlesex MBA has given me a global view of management and a conceptual framework for thinking about business problems.'
