Monash University Graduate School of Business
The Monash MBA is a university-wide programme administered through the Monash University Graduate School of Business. In the Economist Intelligence Unit's Which MBA 2006 survey, the Monash MBA was the only Australian MBA ranked in the world's top 50.
In contrast to the traditional business school model, the Monash MBA has the advantage of being able to draw on the diversity, strengths and resources of the entire University to provide an outstanding management education. This enables Monash MBA students to tailor their programme to meet their career goals.
Course structure Our MBA comprises sixteen semester (term)- length units ? ten core units that provide a solid grounding in the key areas of management and business, and six elective units. These electives, or 'professional tracks', build on the foundation in the fundamentals of management developed in the core units. They can be drawn from any faculty at Monash University in areas as diverse as entrepreneurship, corporate finance, information technology, international business, health-services management, operations management and law-firm management. For example, a recent MBA graduate was a doctor of medicine specialising in paediatrics who had decided that he wanted to move into the management area of a major Melbourne hospital. The Monash MBA has equipped him with essential business knowledge in such areas as finance, human resources and marketing, as well as specialised knowledge about the management of health services.
Double master's programmes
Another distinct feature of the Monash MBA is the range of double master's programmes available. These programmes comprise of twenty units: ten core MBA units and ten specialist units in another master's programme. Hence, students graduate with an MBA degree and another master's degree. At present, we offer 12 double degrees, ranging from a MBA/LLM in Commercial Law to a MBA/Master of Marketing.
Emphasis on leadership The Monash MBA emphasises leadership. The programme commences with an intensive module on personal development, including generic skills assessment, psychometric testing, and workshops on presentation skills and case-study skills. Our dedicated MBA career management service offers career development workshops and seminars, résumé (CV) reviews, and an online careers library and resource centre.
In summary, the Monash MBA, which is ranked in the top band of Australian MBAs and in the top 100 MBA programmes worldwide, is a value-added MBA programme offering students the flexibility to choose the focus and direction of their study, and to shape the degree to match their career aspirations.
