Something Better
There I was, driving home from a long day of work remembering the days when I was in undergraduate engineering school. I can remember a story one engineering professor told us about how he had decided to attend college because he was tired of cleaning jet aircrafts for the Norwegian navy at 4 a.m., saying the old phrase to himself, 'There has got to be something better than this.' From there he decided to pursue a life in engineering. It made me laugh as I was driving because I can vividly remember studying at 3 a.m. for my final exam saying, 'There has got to be something better than this.' I found myself on my way home that night unhappy with my engineering career, saying to myself in the car, 'There has got to be something better than this.' On that day in September 2000, I decided to go to graduate school to pursue my MBA. I was right; there was something better.

Let me give you a little background. I received my undergraduate engineering degree in 1999. However, during the course of my senior year, I realized that I had majored in completely the wrong degree. Engineering design work just didn't capture my interest. Business did. Investments did. Making a transistor act like a resistor did not.

After graduation, I accepted a position as a software engineer with Motorola, Inc. Before my 2001 ExPat in Tokyo, Japan, for a 3G launch, I began my search for a top-quality school that put an emphasis on high quality, concentrated, team-orientated education.

The Best of Everything
Upon returning to the United States in August 2001, I made the decision to attend UT Dallas based upon a variety of factors. I wanted a program that would give me the same top-talent knowledge as a top ten school but at a fraction of the cost. In addition, I wanted a program that would emphasize teams with diverse cultural and academic backgrounds, from Indiana to India and from medical school to marketing. These diverse teams, similar to real-world industry, facilitate unique and innovative ideas and solutions due to constructive conflict. I wanted a program that encouraged and required hard work, perseverance, and determination. I found exactly what I was looking for and more at the Cohort MBA program at UT Dallas.

I found an interest in technology-centric private equity investments during my entrepreneurial finance course-a perfect fit for my interests and my background was found. I look forward to a career of utilizing my MBA to identify solid investments and utilizing my engineering background to understand if the underlying technology is feasible.

I still rely heavily on the relationships that were built during the program. Spending time with my classmates during extracurricular events and the many social outings has given me a new network of contacts for a lifetime.

The Cohort MBA program at UT Dallas has absolutely given me the skills and the focus to succeed as well as a team of classmates that are only a phone call away. Would I recommend this program? Absolutely.
