Hobsons MBA - UCE Business School

Alexander Ruchkin

Since joining the MBA course at Birmingham City University , I've realised the most important experience has been the UK's approach to the learning process which is quite different from the Russian. It has helped to develop my self-study skills and become more critical with the sources of information I deal with. The course has helped to develop my professional knowledge and skills in the fields of finance and management.

Although I was already working in a senior position in Bangladesh, I thought that, in the fiercely competitive job market, gaining an MBA from a reputed business school in the UK would help me to stand out from the crowd and broaden my horizons in the global job market

I chose Birmingham City University because of their excellent ratings in the Quality Assurance Agency review (2001) for business studies, which was 21 out of 24 and also for their emphasis on a collaborative learning environment, flexibility in curriculum, a global perspective to key business issues, the diversity of students and the location in a thriving cosmopolitan city.

Birmingham City University 's MBA has given me the scope to think about managerial solutions from a global perspective and helped me to enhance my knowledge in the specialized area of strategic marketing. The tutors are always accessible and offer some excellent advice and guidance throughout the course that I will always consider as my best sources of inspiration to work hard.

All of the students on my course are from different backgrounds and some are really experienced businessman. I have found listening and talking to people who are more mature than me to be really beneficial. I have learned a lot from them. I would say joining the MBA at UCE Business School has been the best investment that I have ever made for my future route to success.

After completing my Business Studies degree, I felt that further study to a Postgraduate level would help to give me the competitive advantage I needed in today's business environment. I applied to study the MBA at various universities but Birmingham City University responded first. The course structure appealed to me and the efficiency and professionalism of the staff made it a clear choice.

My dream is to run my own business in the future and the MBA offers everything I need to know to make sure I succeed. Since starting the course I've become much more confident and knowledgeable in general business topics but have particularly enjoyed the finance specialisation that I selected.

To do well on this course you need to manage your time well; there's a lot to get through but you'll get out of it what you put in. The group work and discussions have been invaluable, learning from and working with others in your group is so important and can really help your studies.

I already had more than five years of experience in sales & marketing before deciding to join UCE Business School, but as I wanted to move on to Business Development I felt that studying an MBA would help me to catapult my career into the next level. India has an extremely competitive job market, and a university degree is essential to secure a good career.

In my search for a good business school in the UK, I was looking for quality in delivery, a practical curriculum and affordable fees, and Birmingham City University ticked all the boxes.

I had gone through the curriculum structure before I enrolled into the course, and the delivery of the course has exactly met my expectations. I have enjoyed every element of the course, especially the Business Innovation and Planning Module which was both practical and challenging.
I think the most important thing that I have gained from the course is to critically assess and challenge theories and to interpret business theories to address strategic issues.

My experience of Birmingham City University has surpassed my expectations. I was impressed how academic staff, from the Dean of the Business School through to visiting lecturers, have paid personal attention to the progress of my studies. UCE Business School is a very student friendly university which offers both quality and affordability and it allows a person to grow positively to face the future.
